starting point & perspective
There’s no need to include a CV in the traditional sense here. If you’d like, you can take a look at my curriculum vitae on my website
I would like to mention a few other points here:
A project called »zukunftsmusik«, complete with a blog, is naturally linked to my curriculum vitae and my life. There are a few recurring themes, but after going through many different stages, this has turned into a search for my own answers, solutions, options and ways to make decisions. My deepest thanks go to everyone who has stood by me throughout this journey and continues to do so.
This learning process led to further learning: a life-affirming attitude and inner and outer growth imply a perspective on time that looks not only reflectively back into the past, but also forward into the future – and not just for oneself.
Where one’s own future intersects with that of other people and with the state of the world, the situation currently appears highly conflictual and fraught with problems. Not only in terms of a continuum of conflict, resolution and development, but the future itself seems to be at risk of falling out of its natural continuum. The climate crisis, species extinction, social and technological upheavals that seem to be spiralling out of control – all these issues, with their unprecedented complexity, are calling into question the continuity we have known until now.
At this point, I have come to realise just how important and helpful positive visions of the future are.
Whether it’s Maja Göpel, Philipp Blom or Aladin El-Mafaalani, amongst others, they make it clear that we need such visions of the future – of a truly wonderful future – and of how this can be achieved without continuing as we have done so far and thereby depriving ourselves of the very foundations of our existence. These visions of the future are largely absent from Western societies. This is what makes the question so relevant, pressing – and worthwhile: what constitutes a life worth living?
At this point, let us return to ‚future music‘: what might the music of the future be like, what structures does it reflect, and what are the phenomena that interest people and from which music arises? The practice of music in the future could also be very different from what it is today.
This makes the search for the material, consistency, sonic fascination and thematic orientation of ‘zukunftsmusik’ all the more exciting to me.
At this point – where an ending becomes a beginning – there is an invitation.
When I began the first ‘zukunftsmusik’, with the DreiMinutenMyzelium, I had the idea of forming such an artistic mycelium with other people. To gather ideas together with others, turn them into music or artistic actions, and exchange thoughts on them, thereby creating an interactive organism. Anyone with ideas for ‘Zukunftsmusik’ is invited to become part of a ‘mycelial network’ here or elsewhere, whether as a composer, musician, lyricist, or, above all, as a citizen of our world.
